What this costs
Most people ringing a criminal lawyer for the first time want to know two things: what happens next, and what it costs. Firms are often vague about the second. We are not.
Your first appointment is free. You can come in, tell us what has happened, and get an honest assessment of where you stand with no obligation and no charge.
If you engage us, we quote a fixed fee. You will know the cost of your matter in writing before you commit to it. If the matter changes shape (new charges, a contested hearing where a plea was expected) we tell you what that means for the fee before it happens, not afterwards.
We will tell you if you do not need us. Some matters genuinely do not warrant private representation. If yours is one of them, we will say so and point you toward Legal Aid NT, NAAJA or the Darwin Community Legal Service.
How it works
- 01
Initial contact
You call or send an enquiry and tell us briefly what has happened. We will tell you straight away whether this is a matter we act in.
- 02
First appointment
The first appointment is free and carries no obligation. Bring any paperwork you have been given — a summons, a bail form, a notice about seized property.
- 03
Assessment
We tell you honestly where you stand, what the likely path is, and what work the matter will need.
- 04
Written fixed-fee quote
If you want to proceed, we quote a fixed fee in writing for the work described. No open-ended hourly billing and no surprise invoices.
- 05
Engagement
Work starts once you have accepted the quote and the engagement documents are completed.
Fees depend on the charge and the work involved, so we quote each matter individually after the first appointment.
Talk to us before you decide anything
The earlier you get advice, the more options you have. If police want to interview you, get advice before you decide whether to answer questions.
